Herringbone Mittens Part Deux!

I love these Herringbone Mittens. They are a great starter project for people interested in trying Fair Isle techniques!

I made these in Blue/Mint here.
Want to make your own pair?  I highly recommend this pattern from Elliphantom knits!

Skills Needed

  • Joining in the round. Check out this video from Very Pink how to join knits in the round.
  • Knitting in the round. I made these with double pointed needles, but next time I will try making them using Magic Loop (one long circular needle). Magic Loop makes it easier to avoid "ladders" in your knitting.   See the long line that looks different in my Druid Mittens? That's a ladder! It happens when you transition between double pointed needles.
  • Fair Isle.  Very Pink has a series on Fair Isle. I found it really helpful.

Pattern Notes:
For worsted weight yarn: I used size 2 needles on the cuff, 4 on the body. For dk weight yarn, I would use size 3 on the cuff, 5 on the body.  This seems about right for a small/medium mitten.

The purple/white gloves are in worsted weight yarn (Vanna's Choice), and the blue/mint gloves are in dk yarn (Caron simply soft).

Hope you love these as much as I do!
