Modern Christmas Stocking

I love the idea of knitting stockings that will become family heirlooms. I found this great (free!) pattern by Mackenzie Sasser on Ravelry.




The marbling effect comes from holding two different colors together. The nice part about it is that the marbling effect is random - it just depends on what color ends up "on top" as you knit.  You could make one in everyone's favorite color.  

Pattern Notes
I used Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Solids and size 8 double pointed needles.  I think in the future I would use a circular needle and magic loop. I just started using circular needles (I bought a really cheap starter set on Amazon - they cost me about $15 for 10 needle sizes).  I did not realize how versatile circular needles are until I bought these. I love that you can easily knit flat pieces (by treating the circular needles the way you would straight needles) or round pieces (by using magic loop).
