Toddler Kitten Mittens

October 16, 2016

My little guy has been telling me he wants mittens this year, which makes me unbelievably happy because it gives me a reason to do more knitting!  I made these mittens using this pattern from Alyoops with modifications from Fun9 on Ravelry! I made some adult kitten mittens here and here, but I haven't made any child-sized kitten mittens yet!

Here are my project notes:
  • Materials. Knitpicks Capra in Ciel. White yarn from my stash. Size 5 needles.
  • Embroidering the face. I just read the best post on positioning eyes for amigurami by Planet June. I didn't read it in time to help me, but I am going to try her tips on sewing on eyes next time.
  • Colorwork. I am still trying to improve my colorwork. See this picture below? Notice how the middle section is tighter than the colored body section? I have read that this is normal. Most people knit colorwork more tightly than they do single color sections. I would recommend sizing up a needle during the colorwork part. I did that for a Christmas sweater I just made, based on notes from the Anders pattern!

The colorwork is tighter than the rest of the mitten! Ack!

Want more ideas for adult mittens? I have made faux thrummed mittens, tweed mittens, snowflake mittens, herringbone mittens, druid mittens, nautical mittens, and more! Can you tell I love mittens?  If you want to see more of my current projects, you can find me on instagram (SaltyCrafter) and on ravelry (bsl19).
Happy Crafting!
