I love the idea of having mittens for fall and for winter. These knit Druid Mittens are light-weight and intricate, but they still have clean lines that make them look modern. This is a gorgeous pattern from Jared Flood that I found on Ravelry. This is my first attempt at this pattern:
Pattern Notes:
I used a fingering weight yarn from Valley Yarns Huntington in moss green. I used a U.S. size 1 on the cuffs, and a size 2 on the mitten body.
- The charts for these mittens are really intricate and hard! To help me track my progress, I put the charts in a clear page protector. I used a dry erase marker to cross off lines that I had finished.
- You have to check the errata for the pattern. There is a mistake in the thumb in the original pattern, so my right thumb has a fumble on it (I didn't realize my mistake until it was too late).
- The thumbs were kind of small for me as they were written. I went ahead and made 20 rows of the thumb in order to make them larger.
- My gloves have some tension problems (you can see a line running up the middle). I think it's because I was on double pointed needles. I may try circular needles in the future!
- These gloves are thin, which is a great for a fall weight glove, but if you want to winterize them, you could add a lining to both gloves. In order to do that, I'd recommend sizing up for the cuff and the body.
Good luck with knitting!
