Hi, everyone!
I am in love with faux fur Pom Pom hats. I have seen them all over Instagram, and I really wanted to make one. But, I just couldn't stomach the price of a faux fur Pom Pom (up to $10 in some places I checked). So, I decided to make my own. Want to make your own? I have some notes on making them after this picture of Mr. Penguin modeling my first Pom.
Making a Faux Fur Pom Pom:
- Materials. You will need a small amount of faux fur, scissors, thread, needle, and something to stuff inside the Pom (I used scrap yarn, but any pillow type stuffing would work).
- Instructions. I followed these notes from Little Inspiration. Overall, these notes are very good- just cut the fur, sew around, and pull the thread tight.
- Crazy looking fur. My Pom looked horrible after I sewed it shut- the fur was going the wrong way. I was so sad about that, because I was thinking I should have just spent $10 on a pre-made Pom. But, it was too late for those kinds of thoughts, so I had to plow ahead. I wet down the fur and blow dried it in the shape I wanted. That worked like a charm! I highly recommend that for the future.
- Gaping holes. For best results, sew close to the outside edge of the circle you cut. That will help the hole close up tightly. Otherwise, you get some gaping holes (ask me how I know).
This is a great, quick project. I made six Poms, and I still have tons of faux fur to spare. Hope you enjoy making these!
